Well I just got back from the range. I shot my buddies Colt 1911 45 ACP truck gun. At 15 yards it would shoot less than 3" 5 shot groups most of the time. I was comparing it to a used Springfield Arms M&P 45 ACP.
I had a little trouble with the M&P at first because the sights were not adjustable and the trigger was kind of spongy. After I settled in with the M&P I started to shoot pretty darn good and I have never been very good with a pistol.
The 1911 was using reloads of semi wad cutters. They really shot good in that one, but in the M&P I couldn't get it to group very well at all.
The cheap ball ammo that I was using in the M&P shot pretty good though.
The target was 3/4s of the way to the 25 yard range where the light shined on the target. Most of the 5 shot groups that I shot with the ball ammo were 5" and a few 4 shots were 3" or less With the M&P.
Over all the M&P felt good in my hand and shot pretty good I thought. The trigger still bothered me even more so as I shot more because I was trying to shoot as small a group as I could.
The 1911 had a trigger job on it so it was much better than the M&P. It also shot smaller groups, but not a lot smaller. The 1911 really feels good in my hand, but I think I like the M&P feel better.
Both the 1911 and the M&P functioned flawlessly.
Well I am still not sure which pistol I will buy, but the M&P is still on my list.
How do you experienced pistoleros think about the groups that I shot?
