G2 Contender Questions
« on: March 21, 2008, 02:37:22 PM »
Got my new G2 Contender in .22cal match yesterday. Took almost 3 months but it's here, reading the manual last night I noticed a couple of things that I wasn't sure about.

1) The manual talks about adjusting the trigger stop screw, it looks like mine doesn't one.
2) It came with iron sights but the manual talks about all Contenders are drilled and tapped for T/C scope mounting systems. Didn't see any holes, are they under the rear ramp sight?
3) In the packet there was a small hex wrench, I looked in the manual and didn't see any mention of what the  wrench was for.

Thanks for the input...

It's been a while since I have looked at a book.  However, the wrench is probably for the forend and grip.  The rear sights are mounted by the same holes as TC scope mounts.  The trigger stop screw should be behind the trigger on the trigger guard.

That small hex wrench should fit the trigger stop screw.

The large allen wrench is to take off the pistol grip,(under the grip cap)and they did stop giving you a trigger stop screw.

I just got my G2 last week also.  No trigger stop screw, and the wrench they give you is way too small to fit the grip screw.  On the plus side, I shot it for the first time this morning and I love this gun.

Thanks for all the input but I still have a couple more questions about my Contender:

It came with iron sights but the manual says all Contenders are drilled and tapped for T/C scope mounting systems. Didn't see any holes, are they under the rear ramp sight?

Do I need to take it to a gunsmith to have this done and do I have to use the T/C base?

Thanks...

The mounting holes for most scope bases are under the rear sight.  Some older barrels allowed you to remove the adjusting screw and spring and flip the movable part of the sight to get to the screws to remove the sight.  All of the later barrels I have require removing the adjusting screw and spring and removing the pin that the movable part pivots on.  If at all handy you can do it yourself.

There are all kinds of different mounting systems made by all the major scope mount companies.  You do need to use the model designed to fit Contenders, but choose the type you prefer.  If you have never mounted a scope you may want to have someone who has show you the ropes the first time, or have a gunsmith do it.  Most will do it for nothing if you buy the parts from them.

Good luck with this.  Take your time, make sure things are tight, and all will be well.
