22 Hornet. Which Barrel?
« on: February 15, 2008, 04:13:27 PM »

I'm sending in my receiver for a laminated stock and a .22 Hornet barrel. Is there an appreciable difference in accuracy between the 22" standard barrel and the 20" SL4 barrel offered thru the barrel accessory program?

I dunno about accuracy, but you'd better call and ask if they have any superlight hornets left, it's been discontinued as a rifle and as an accessory barrel. :'(

Thanx Tim. I talked with them yesterday about the stocks and the differences in the barrels altho availability was not mentioned.

Stocks shouldn't be a problem, even if they're out, you'll eventually get it, but the same can't be said for the barrel since they won't make any more of em, you'd have to settle for a different chambering or they return it without a barrel, that's happened before when they ran out of barrels and the customer didn't want to wait, needed the frame back for their other barrels for an upcoming hunt. :-\

I just got a 22 Hornet SL on Jan. 15. It had a little surface rust on it, the crown was obviously dinged and had copper fouling in the barrel. It was the ejector type. I am not sure if inventory is getting that low or they were rotating stock and I got one from the back of the warehouse, but it looked like it had been around a while. When I ordered it on Nov. 5th 2007, I called first and they said no problem about available stock on the SL, I did not ask about the regular barrel weight. I thought about sending it back for a newer barrel, but in the end decided to work with what they sent me. BTW I got the cinnamon laminated stock and fore end for it. I think it looks very good.
