30 Reece
« on: February 11, 2008, 04:54:51 PM »
Anyone have experience with this wildcat cartridge?  I found it on one of the forum sponsors site.  It is a 357 Magnum case necked down to 30 caliber and the overall case length shortened just a tad.  Designed for small game and varmits so they say.  Cute little round though.

I don't have actual experience with the round, for more info check with E.A. Brown or the pistol silhouette site. Some call this round a 30/221R
like the 30 Whisper, it was meant for big bore pistol silhouette and shoot heavy bullets sub sonic

I have a 30 Reece and it is one of my barrels that I take to the range every time. Carson Reece of Lebanon, MO (417) 532 7231 is the one that came up with this round. It is a 38 special neck down to 30 cal. It will take 12.5 grains of 296 Win with a 150 grain sierra bullet at 1,800 ft/sec. If I due my part it will lay them in a half of inch at 50 yards. You must know I do not do that every time. But it is fun when it does happen. Carson has killed three dear with it the last couple of years. He had a story this last year in the TCA magazine about his dear hunt with the 30 Reece. Hornady made a run of 75 die sets and 75,000 brass head stamped 30 Reece for him. Carson is a super guy. He will give you all kinds of help. I had the 30 Reece OTT barrel as the barrel that I put on my engraved Double Eagle Contender Gun for my retirement present to myself. I hope this will answer some of your questions. I love my Reece barrel. Twyman

15 inch Shilen match select. The better grade is worth the extra cost. Shilen will sell blank barrels in 15 inch lengths. You may have to wait a little while. Reece founded out that the bullet needs to make at less one complete revolution in the barrel for better accuracy in pistol length barrels. I think my twist rate is 1 to 11. It was a Little faster than normal. Don't hold me to that it was a while back. The 30 Reece is a great pinker round. It may be a little lite on deer, I guess it would depend upon distance, size and how good you place the round. I sure like my Reece. My most favorite pinking rounds are the Reece, whisper(contenders) and 30-20 MOA. You would enjoy the round.

OTT email http://www.ottllc.co
OTT makes a EDM anode chamber from a brass & bullet  dummy load. Your chamber would be a perfected centered chamber.  There will be a wait for OTT. He is in high demand.
The wait is worth it. OTT barrels are very accurate. Check out his Webb site. "On Target Technologies " best to do a search for the site.

An EDM by itself won't guarantee any more accuracy in the type of steel used for gun barrels than any good quality reamer and machine used by a careful machinist.  Perhaps if the chamber were being cut in hardened tool steel I would agree, but it won't be.

I am sure that OTT does good work, but the EDM doesn't make the difference.
