To save you a lot of money look into an Uncle Mikes (IIRC) barrel band, They are made for things like .22 rifles, Marlin and Winchester (lever actions, to be put on the magazine tube) and for shotguns. They are 2 pieces and tighten together with small socket head screws. I have had one on my .336 for many years with no problems. Midway or somewhere like that should carry them. They have been discussed here before so a search should ring up something....<><....:)

try this thread:

they come in different diameters to fit different size barrels....

I am getting up there in the years so please excuse me if this is stupid. Were you talking a barrel band, the type that goes over the barrel and fore end to hold the fore end on or a swivel that attaches to the barrel? ???

When I get around to finishing my 45-70 I'll be getting the barrel band sold by Williams (the gunsight co.), part #QD-12 GA. "L" SET. They are a little more expensive than the Uncle Mikes, but I prefer the design.

THANKS FOR THE RESPONSE.I WAS ACTUALLY THINKING OF THE TYPE YOU PUT OVER THE BARREL AND HAVE SOLDERED INTO PLACE JUST LIKE SOME OF BIG CALIBER SAFARI RIFLES.BUT IF YOU GUYS HAVE HAD GOOD LUCK WITH THE KIND THAT IS SCREWED DOWN INTO PLACE I WOULD DEFINITELY GIVE IT SOME CONSIDERATION.IT WOULD SAVE TIME AND MONEY.I AM JUST CONCERNED IT MAY COME LOOSE AND SCRATCH THE SURFACE OF THE BARREL.WHAT DO YOU THINK ?
                                                                                                        THANKS,
