T/C Scout Carbine questions

Hello to all, I read these forums a lot, but seldom post. I traded yesterday for a T/C Scout .54cal 21 inch carbine. The barrel is totally octagon and is marked CODY SCOUT with the T/C emblem between the CODY and SCOUT on the barrel. T/C catalogs (that I have) for at least four of the years they where in production do not list a totally octagon barrel available. They list octagon to round and round. Does anyone know if this was a special run? The carbine is in excellent shape and I am looking forward to shooting it. It was also available in .50 cal in a 24 inch barrel in both .50 & .54 calibers. Traded a Savage 110 in LH in .270 for it, I have about $300 in the Scout. How bad a deal did I make? Really like the type of trigger-hammer setup. Only two moving parts and seems very solid.

I had a scout but gave it up due to the rather strange breechplug/nipple thingy. The false chamber between the nipple and the charge in the barrel also is difficult to keep clean. The rifle does shoot well in .50 cal which mine was.

Keith, thanks for the reply. I found out yesterday that mine came from Cabela's. That explains the Octagon barrel marked CODY SCOUT. Most likely a special run for Cabela's. Fox Ridge still had a breakdown tool (9/16" open end wrench would work) and nipple can still be bought, but on backorder right now. It is a strange arrangement for the nipple and I hadn't thought about any problem with cleaning that area you mentioned between the nipple and breech plug. I am used to the System 1 and so the breakdown aspect doesn't bother me if the carbine shoots well.

Keith, I forgot to ask what loads and powder were you shooting in yours?

In looking at their catalog numbered 20 I found that it was a 1 in 20 twist, however in the #22; 23; and 24 catalog the twist had been changed to 1 in 38. Since mine was bought from Cabela's in Dec. of 2007 it should have 1 in 38 twist. I found a round barrel in 50 cal that I am thinking of buying. Now I need to know what twist it is before I decide.
Thank you for your input. Maybe you could find a later mfg barrel and solve your problem.

 i have a scout in 50cal. that shoots 250grain xtp's in a sabot into 1.5  in group at 100 yards  its a 1 in 20 twist allways wanted a 54

Information from T/C today. They made the Cody Scout and Texan Scout as a special run for Cabela's and maybe one other company. the barrel was octagon and 1 in 48 twist rate. If I can ever figure out how to use (My Hosted Pics) site I will post a couple of photos. Barrel was most likely the same blank used for the Renegade as it 1" across the flats. Anxious to shoot it and see how it does.  ;D

Can't help you with file size as I know nothing else about computers other than what I have picked up here on this site. :)
