Beaver behavior

I was under the impression that when you make a mock castor mound the beaver will come in and tear it up, then replace it with a castor mound of their own. Is this true?

Sometimes they just make thier own a few feet from yours. Most of the time i find them suitcased in a 330 before they get the chance to!
