Broken Fireing Pin?

I was at the range today,and started to shoot my prohunter/with the 223 barrel on it. When I squezzed the trigger,all that happened was a snap! I opened the action,and the primer wasn't dented. Then I took my pocket knife and depressed the firing pin from the rear. The front half of the firing pin was gone! I've had this gun for around a year,and shot it many times with the 50ML barrel on it,and recently with the 223 barrel. Do these firing pins break allot? I've never dry fired it,and have disassembled it to clean out the firing pin cavity .. Everything looked good when apart. I'll call T/C tomorrow and see about a replacement firing pin,I guess I might want to order a spare? Ron

They break -- not often, but it does happen. TC will more than likely want you to send the frame in, but they care of problems like these in short order.

However, if you had a trigger job on the frame, it will be returned back to factory specs.

 :(Seems like a replacement firing pin wouldn't require the frame being sent in. You just remove one hex head screw,and out it comes,hardly a factory required skill level job. I'll call them today,and see if they will sell me a replacement firing pin. Ron

Be polite but persistent, and let them know you understand how to perform this task yourself. Depending on who you get on the phone, some will even try and get you to send a frame back just to swap out the lugs. It's pretty much standard operating procedure to suggest this first, so just stick to your guns -- pardon the pun -- and have them send you the replacement(s).

A year or so ago I had a broken firing pin on an Encore pistol.  They sent me a replacement and a spare, no problem, in short order.  Let us know if your experience is different.

While cleaning I noticed on my encore firing pin that the center of the pin was cratered. I have no idea how or when it happened or if it came from the factory this way. Still shot just fine but it bothered me so I called T/C and explained the problem, they sent me a new one in the mail.                                  Dan

Ditto of what Dang said I had the same thing happen and they sent me a new one. I would ask they send me a new spring also.

They sent a replacement firing pin,and a spare incase it happened again. Then said if I needed a spring they would also send a couple. I msaid the spring was fine. Then they said if I needed anything else feel free to call. You can't beat their service! Ron

I had same problem few years back, picked up spare firing pins and springs along with the support base. TC told me I should really be removing the firing pin, spring and support base frequently if I shoot the ML since crud will build up there. Did that and was surprised at amount of crud. Now I just clean it periodically when I clean the entire frame. No big deal as stated above. Interestingly, never had another pin problem once I regularly cleaned this area.
