I think the better solution is to simply remove the existing extractor and store it somewhere.  Have yet to have one stick or take more than fingernails to remove.

Sorry, Underclocked, I never did thank-you for the tip ya placed on the
old forum better than a year ago. I took out the extractor last summer
and never had problem one with removing the spent primers. Sure is nice
to clean the 209x50 barrel without dismantling. So, thank-you!

Does it make a differance what kind of primers you use. I use Federal M and sometimes even with the extractor i have to use my knife to get the primer out. I'll try it without the extractor in, maybe that would help. I don't shoot over 100gr. so pressure should not be the problem and the gun is clean.

Those are probably the hottest primers you could choose (Federal M's).  Good primers but the Winchesters perform just as effectively and have never stuck in my Encore.

That makes no sense - - - all I've used is Federal 209A primers. What are they sticking to?

Was with a friend last fall when he bought an Encore.  The salesman said do not use Federal primers in it since alot of people have problems with them.  Honestly the guy was an annoying salesman so I did not ask why.  Maybe this is why.  I use Winchester in mine without any problems.

The T/C factory suggested either Federal or Winchester, saying they had great results  / no problems with either. Haven't had a Federal stick yet-- in an Omega, Encore, Winchester X-150, Traditions . . .

Sticky Primers in a Blackpowder Encore

I have had primers that were a bitch to remove after firing the Encore . The main difference in primers that I have observed insofar  as extraction is concerned is in what the outside is made out of, if they have a copper base and rim they will swell and be difficult to remove and the extractor will jump past the primer- this is definately not a situation you want if you are hunting. The Winchester primer with an all steel construction is the one you want to go with, it doesn't swell and the extractor lift the primer easily the way that it should. I believe that the T/C Encore has the best trigger in the industry, these are fine rifles.

That little new exstracter for the non-problem looks pretty neat. I should have a new 209x50 barrel coming soon so I might try the removal methed. That little thing sure does get in the way. :?

I have shot a lot of different "front end loaders" but for me the TC trigger makes all the difference.  This combined with the all round quality of build makes shooting it a joy.  Keep the extractor area clean and about once a year take it all apart and make sure there is no burring of metal to metal. If there is, dilligent use of a dremel, sandpaper and a small smooth bastard will slick 'er all up.

I tried shooting with the extractor removed, did not like it.  Had to take my fingernail and work the primer out the breech plug.  Cannot see any need in doing this when the extractor does it for ya.  I bought one of them neat new extractors that flip sideways that everyone was making fun of.  I think it works rather well.
