two new rifles with hy serial numbers

New to the board< but a big handi fan since 1990.I just purchased two new hand'si(.280 & .233  palletwood/ blue) rifles with serial numbers HY instead of N.Will this make a difference in ordering barrels with an *.I see the Y means 2007 ,but I noticed in the replacement barrel form requires a N prefix.thanks for replies in advance.

Welcome!! Serial number prefix explanations are in the FAQs, but a first letter N= NEF, H= H&R, second letter denotes the year, Y=2008. The NN or HN for 1999 is for the second letter, and only applies to the high pressure * marked barrels, any barrel made since 1987 can be fitted, but only those without the * if made before 1999. ;)

Welcome aboard wvmountainman, you have 2 fine rifles there, both made in 2008. The factory will fit ANY barrels they currently make to either of your frames. Come often and enjoy the friendship and help here buddy, the guys here are very helpful and friendly. If you have any problems or questions just ask. We all started out with these fine single shots at one time and I know those here helped me out a bunch, a lot of the help came from just reading and looking around, anything specific I just asked and it was promptly and courteously answered, usually by several guys. each with his own slant or explanation, and they all helped...Happy to have you with us....<><....:)

wvmountainman, welcome to gbo, the two guys above can tell you alot about your new handi-rifles,i have learned alot by just reading all the post made here about handi-rifles, they are great guns, some need a little work to get them right, some shoot great right of the box, just shoot your guns and have a great time.

Thanks for the help folks! that answered my question.I thought since they were both H&R instead of New England Arms maybe there was a difference.

WV were those 2008 model bought at a big box store or a local gun shop? Maybe they are getting then released finally. Kurt

when I get home I will double check that NY =2008 ,but they are new inventory, for a local store(small compared to cabelas).
