CZ 527 weak firing pin spring
« on: February 08, 2008, 08:25:07 PM »
I need help with a CZ 527 in 7.62X39.  I took it to the range yesterday and discovered my old problem with the firing pin not striking the rifle primers hard enough to ignite them is back in force.  I did not get one round to fire and they all fired in my Ruger Ranch rifle when I tried them in it.  What can I do to remedy the problem.  I am thinking of loading with large or small pistol primers (depending on which case I am using).  What other solutions come to mind?  Thanks for any help you may provide me.

Are you sure the problems a weak spring? Have you used other factory ammo in the weapon? Have you stripped the bolt and cleaned it thoroughly? I once had a guy with a rifle that was not firing. It was a new rifle of good make and the model gave no reasons for the light hits. I found the bolt handle touching the wood of the stock. This kept the rifle from going completely into battery and the interlock ate a large percentage of the strikers energy before striking the primers. A tiny bit of work with a chisel and the bolt closed completely and the rifles failures to fire,,stopped.. If indeed you checked it out and the rifle has the same problem when using factory ammo the the first order of business would be a call to CZ-USA. They have a website also. I've found them most helpful in my some what limited dealings with them. I bought a 527FS in 22 Hornet and it was superbly accurate. A second FS in 223 with the single set trigger convinced me the set trigger was a good thing. The Hornet lacking this I made a call and was told that all 527 rifle had the single set trigger when sold.. After a bit of discussion I was told they had indeed sold a few with the adjustable trigger. I decided to leave well enough alone..

Thanks for the reply GunNut69.  I do have the problem with factory ammo also and the firing pin/spring were removed and inspected and were totally clean.  I must have less than 40 rounds through this rifle as I've had the problem ever since I purchased it so it has not gone to the range or out hunting due to the FTF problem.  I am going to contact CZ today and see if they can help.

A couple of things to check out.  What is the amount of firing pin depth at the bolt face?  I have found that you need about .057 for a certain fire.  The was a problem on some of the Mini mausers also.  Check for a stronger spring from the factory.  The factory may have a bad batch of heat treated springs.
