Ruger K77 Compact Question
« on: March 05, 2008, 05:43:21 PM »
I'm getting interested in the compact Ruger K77 308. Has a 16.5 inch barrel. What kind of loss of accuracy and velocity would you expect from such a short barreled weapon? Anyone have any experience with one?

Loss of accuracy - none.  Velocity loss nominally 25 (+/-) fps per inch, depending on powder, load, etc.  I have one of these on my "want list", and I think the trade-off in velocity for the handling characteristics is well worth it - at least for my purposes.
It seems that these rifles have been received pretty well.  There is a thread on the bolt action rifles forum.

I've got one in 260 Rem. No real difference in accuracy, and the few fps you lose are worth the lighter weight and easy handling.
