New VTR has arrived!
« on: February 16, 2008, 03:12:23 PM »
this rifle was made for me,it is the first rifle I have owned or held that fits me out of the box,no alterations required.I topped it with a Bushnell Elite 10x with the mildot and target turrets,Harris swivel pod,Leupold 2 piece twist in base and rings.I Only got to shoot enough rounds tonight to get it zeroed at 100 and it was grouping VERY well,I put 5 shots in 1.5 inch with bulk FMJ off the hood of the truck before it was so dark I couldnt see the bullseye. It shoulders with ease, its light, the rubber inserts in the stock give me a rock solid grip for offhand shooting, the length is perfect, the action is smooth as teflon, the trigger is a bit heavy for me but that will be remedied tonight.I am seriously considering the mag conversion for 4 and 10 round magazines,I think it would be a nice addition to the tactical look and feel of the rifle as well as making PD hunting a blast 10X.I give it a 10/10 for a factory rifle and I am certian this will be a sub moa rifle with handloads, cant wait to get it bloody.

If it aint fair chase its FOUL,and illegal in my state!

Looks like Remington has a early winner on their hands.  I have yet to see anything negative from users.  Somebody is bound to end up with a Lemon, but not so far.

What caliber did you end up with NONYA?  I am betting that the .22-250 will be the deadliest.  The .223 should also be good.  IMO, the VTR is too much gun for a .204, with features that are not necessary for that caliber.  I went with a .308 for all around use.

I was getting a closer look at that Brake and was wondering how the recoil was when you shot it.  Also, I noticed that the brake is counter-bored about 1 1/2 to 2 inches so it acts like a small flash supressor too.

VLS,  you'll be bouncing off the walls by the time any check comes from Washington.  For your own safety - get one sooner.

At least put one on layaway before you hurt yourself.

I'd get it in .308 not only because well I get all my 700's in .308  :D but the muzzle brake would be kinda pointless with those smaller calibers. Does that make sense?  Ignore me, long 3rd shift again  >:(

I guess I could put it in Layaway, Gander does the 90 days so....

Good grief my purchases alone must make Cerberus very happy they bought Remmy  8)

UPDATE: After reading the other thread and if I can get any stock I want, a .308 model will be ordered this week if they are available.

Question to NONYA, wareagleguy and whoever else has the VTR. Have ANY of you held the SPS Varmint? If so, is it the same stock just a different color? Does it have a different texture? If it is the same, I will unload it promptly. Oh my goodness I want it badly. That larger pic NONYA posted is awesome! Thanks my friend!

Dale, get to a dealer and see if they have a VTR so you can compare, I know you're well acquainted with the SPS stock, I need your input. I won't know which rifle to bring if I come hunt woodchucks with ya ;D

SniperVLS I have not been able to see one in person yet. I was at Gander Mt. about a week and a half ago and they did not have one in yet. As far as rifles go for Groundhog hunting bring what you like. Dale
