Powder close to N 204 for 6.5x55, 120 Barnes TSX
« on: February 20, 2008, 04:02:29 PM »
I can't seem to buy N 204 without a major Haz Mat. charge.  What would be close to work up for a 6.5x55 and a 120 Barnes TSX?  I have shot some 120 gr. Speer Hot Core with RL-19.  Fast but not very accurate.  Any suggestions?  Thanks Buckfever

Buckfever:

H4350 sits right next door to N204 in various burn rate charts.  Not sure if Barnes has any data out with it.  I have found RL19 to be a great powder to work with using 120 Sierra Pro hunters.  Yes, it's just a tad bit slower than N204, but it works.

You can email  or call Ty Herring at Barnes to get data if they have it, 1-800-574-9200  tyh@barnesbullets.com

The Barnes #3 shows 6.5x55 data for H4350, Rl19, IMR4350 and IMR4831, all of which are close to N204, the TSX loading guidelines which are stated on the Barnes website uses the #3 data for the 120gr XFB, plus up to 1½-2grs.

Thanks Gentlemen, I am going to go back to the RL-19 and see if using the extra length of the 120 gr. Barnes TSX to load the bullet closer to the  lans may tighten up the groups.  I used 49 gr. of RL-19 with a 120 gr, Hot Core.  It showed no sign of any pressure problems.  So I will load out further and work the load up again to see if the pressure signs don't show.  Also see if it tightens up the group.  I have a good friend who says RL-19 in 6.5-55, 30-06 and so forth seems to have great velocity with lower pressures.

Thanks Again, Buckfever
