I have seen them sit right out on the pond bank about 100 yds off the porch here in Southern Lancaster county, PA.  They never drink but seem to be pretty fond of the food offered along it.  Of course they dont get much of a chance to drink from it. There is a shot and then no groundhog....that is what the .223 handi usually has to say about that.  I am making my rounds with the neighboring farms as we speak to get clearance for my favorite up coming time of year.

Here on Da U.P. (Michigan) I've hear them called both groundhog, but mostly woodchuck.  I call them "chucks", and shortly thereafter hold a brief memorial service for them.  The last one lost his mind over a Hornady Leverevolution .45-70.  Its not my chuck gun, just what I had in my hand when I saw him.  I was really relieved when he didn't charge.
Keep both eyes open and make the first shot good.

What a close call!  Good thing you shot first!

My buddy had one charge when he was with his small son.  I don't think he had a gun at that moment, he picked up his son and exited rapidly.  If you are reading this, Bob, please verify!
