What's the word on Handi Mags? Did I miss something?
« on: February 21, 2008, 05:52:27 AM »
Is H&R going to provide or not? My distributors still list the 7mm and 300WM but not the 338. What goes ? Did I miss something? I have a wildcat belted magnum barrel coming back from Wayne York that I was hoping to fit to a new mag action. If I fit to a standard SB2 I'll have to load it down. Someone give me the skinny please. - F50 >:(

Well this is disappointing to say the least but I always knew it could happen. Good thing when I created the 350 Jacob I kept a record of every load and every shot was recorded and cronoed. I believe I can come up with a 225 gr bullet doin about 2800 to 2900 FPS that will be acceptable for use (a step up from my 35 Whelen). My son's (Jacob) Winchester 70 with a Douglas barrel has cronoed 225 gr Noslers at 3250 fps.I would be interested to know what design changes they felt were necessary. I'm sure we'd all like to know why they think they wouldn't have a sufficient market? ??? ::)

The reason they dropped it was cuz preorders just didn't happen like they hoped. :-\

Actually, the  RMEF 35 Whelen 26" barrel will do 2900fps with the 225gr TSX, the 22" barrel will do 2800+, both with Rl15. ;)

Thanks for that info Tim. I got my elk this year with the Whelen and a 225 gr Nosler over 56 gr of R15 but it only cronoed 2555. The 350 Jacob has 82 gr of water volume, base cartridge is a 300 WM with a 40 deg shoulder and the taper blown out.I developed it in 1984 and named it after my son.  Wayne is chambering a 22" Whelen barrel and adding one of his MB's for me along with the extractor mod. I ordered a T-hole stock and forend from H&R today in camo lam that should make a nice package. Will probably top it with a Nikon Prostaff or Burris Fullfield II as I love those BDC reticles. - Gary ;)

Just load it light enough to stay in Handi capabilities. Been there done that with the 300WSM, couldn't get over 3000fps with 150gr NBSTs, just too much action flex with the big .555" case head, the .513" case head should give you some working space in comparison.  ;)
