Front sight lose in M83
« on: January 07, 2008, 10:08:31 PM »
Regret to admit that my front sight is lose, after only about 2 boxes of factory .357's. I did try and fasten it a bit, the only problem is, that I don't have the exact size of the unbrako needed. I think the problem is that the size vary from the ones you use in the states, and the ones we use here. Probably yours are measured in inches, and ours in centimeters. Does anybody know the size used to fasten the front sight???

And... why was this not fastened properly from factory??

What the heck is an "unbrako" in English?   ???

I'm sure it did come properly tight from the factory however they do not use loctite and it really is needed to keep the screws tight. You will find a definite need to tighten all screws from time to time as you shoot it. Buy some BLUE loctite and use it on the screws and the interval between times you have to tighten will be greatly extended but screws do shoot loose that's just a fact of life.

It would be good to buy a good set of gunsmith screw drivers and keep them on hand at all times. Dunno how easy it is for you guys over there to order from places like Brownells and others who sell such but if you can pull it off that's what you really should do.

Sorry, an unbrako is a hexagonal tool used for a certain kind of screws. I googled it and found definitions in english so I just assumed that was also what you called it :o)

Anyways, thanks for the fast reply, I'll go get myself some blue loctite then.

Most people around here say Allen wrench, but hex key also works.  The one you need is 1/16 of an inch.

If you have the rubber grips be sure to tighten the screws under the grips too.

It's like a fine Italian supercar.  Maintenance is required.

Thank you, but I sure do not have rubber grips on my baby. That would be blasphemy, plain and simple  ::)

A little finger nail polish works also.  Easier to loosen the screw and less likely to strip the head than blue loc-tite.  If you can get the purple loc-tite (222) it will also work and is easy to remove.

Okay, thanks.

I've bought the hex tool needed to fasten the screw. Have been to the range twice since I fastened the screw, and it hasn't shown any problems yet :)
