300WM loads
« on: February 21, 2008, 09:43:50 AM »
A guy I work with is going to start loading for his Sendero 300WM.
What bullet powder combos are you guys using in your 300WMs.

Nobody has a good load for a 300 Win mag.
You don't have to give me your powder charge if you are worried about liability.
Just the components you are using.

He will work it up himself and rarely uses max loads anyway.

In my custom Sako 75 .300 Win mag I've had good luck with these loads:

168 gr. Barnes TSX
Nosler Brass
Fed215M primers
75 grs. of RL22
OAL .030" off

(I've seen some folks post loads as high as 80 grs with this bullet/powder combo, but with my rifle's tight chamber that's way over max for me. I was getting 3380fps and sticky bolt lift with 78 grs, so I backed off to 75 for a more reasonable 3200+.)

180 gr. Nosler Accubond
Nosler brass
Fed215M primers
70 grs. of IMR4831
OAL .010" off

As always, start low and work up. You may be able to exceed my loads since my rifle's a custom job and has a chamber that's a little tighter than your average factory job.

This year I plan on working extensively with H4831sc in the Winny. That's been a good powder for me in the 7mm Rem Mag and .300 Wby.

When I bought my .300, it was expressly to shoot 200gr bullets. If I had wanted to shoot lighter bullets, I'd've stuck with a 30-06. I used 200gr Grand Slams and a healthy load of IMR4350, magnum CCI primers, and Rem cases. Velocity was @2900fps

I've got the Sendero in .300 WM and love it. It loves Nosler 200 gr. Accubonds with either RL-22 or RL-25. Both shoot well. I prefer the RL-22 since the rifle will hold about 3/4" an inch at 200 yards with this load.  Then again, this rifle will shoot  anything including Partitions well.  This is one of those rifles that you never sell. I carried it at 11,000 feet for five days and never thought about the weight either. Balances well and great off hand platform. I am looking for a .338 in the Sendero, one of my hunting buds told me there was a limited run for a wholesaler few years back. Would love to find one.

I use 70 grains of IMR 4831 under a 190 grain Hornady BTSP,this load gets 2930 fps out of a 24 inch tube. Consult your reloading books and work the data up for your rifle.

H4831 was the best powder for mine. I used some IMR4350 also. Most of my loads consisted of 180gr and larger bullets.
Wanna have some fun? Get ya some 110gr HPs for it. I can't remember the powder, but DANG they're fun to shoot ! Before I got to shoot any groundhogs with it I had to put a roof on my house and the sale of that rifle helped fianance it. I been doing some checking around and may have another here shortly, though.
