.22 Carbine/.22 Johnson Spitfire
« on: July 07, 2003, 01:15:00 PM »
Anyone know anything about this cartridge in a Contender.  I understand it came about as a .22 cal cartridge for the Iver Johnson M1 Carbines and is a .30 Carbine necked down to .22 cal.  While I don't particularly have an interest in the cartridge as an M1 Carbine round, I think it would make a cool Contender round.  I would assume it would be safe since T/C does chamber .30 Carbine barrels (T/C Custom Shop).

Also, has anybody tried necking the .30 Carbine down to 6mm, .25 cal, 6.5mm, or 7mm?  Not specifically in the Contender, although that would be even cooler, but just in general for these?

22 Splitfire or 5.7 Johnson

I have a 5.7 johnson in a 18 inch contender carbine barrel. It has no name whom made it. It is alot of fun at 50 yards. I think it is a barrel made by Mike Bellum. I had hear he had a reamer in that caliber. He reamed a super 14 22LR out to 5.7 Johnson for Ed.  of Ed's contenders. I has a set of 25/30 carbine dies that I use to bring down the 30 carbine brass to 25 cal. The dies can get pricey. That all I know about them. Twyman
