New .270

Well I just picked up my new Savage model 111 in .270 and I hope to get to the range within the next few weeks, if the snow ever stops.  I have a question or two.  I have heard about polishing the barrel before I shoot it and I wonder what it does and how to do it.  The only rifles other than a .22 I have owned have all been used guns so I've never had to do this.

I would just clean it good and shoot it. If it shoots inch groups or close, I wouldn't worry about it. Shoot around 100 rounds through it. Good luck!

Ditto what Ponca said. I jes' give my rifles and a thorough cleaning when I bring them home for the first time and head to the range.

I am sorry to hear that. Now you will have to get a new freezer to put the meat in. The problem is you get a new great shooting gun and you are going to have to use it!  I will say Good luck, but you won't need it. Your rifle will shoot great savage has great barrels.  Ron
