1885 Uberti Tang Sight Question
« on: January 17, 2008, 11:29:41 AM »
I have been thinking about putting a Tang Sight on my 1885 Win copy made by Uberti. I want to be able to hunt deer as well as lob some lead at extended range for fun. I want the sight period to the gun and have been thinking along the lines of a Marbel's. Does anyone know which would be most useful for what I want? Also will I have to change my front bead?

I have the Uberti 1885 in 45-70 and found that a Marble's tang sight for the 1894 Winchester fit perfectly. Also, the deluxe long range tang sight for my C. Sharps 1875 fits. You might look at the ASSRA (American Single Shot Rifle Association) website. There is a discussion on one of the forums about tang sights for the  Uberti. I did not change the front sight. If you intend to shoot out to 800 or 1000 yds you may want to get one of the taller tang sights. The Marble's now has a longer sight stem available but I get a little concerned about the Marble's hitting me in the eye on a heavy recoiling rifle. For a really good selection of sights check out Buffalo Arms website.

Doug, here's a period correct peep tang sight ...

Can't go wrong with a Marbles - about as close to period correct as they come except for the disc.

No, unless you run out of elevation on the rear sight
