416 taylor

Hi, all:

I am a long time fan of cast bullets.
I have a 416 Taylor which I am told can not shoot cast bullets well.  I am also stubborn!  I realize it has a very short neck but if I seat the gas check into the powder space, that gives me about one diameter to work with, or .416" the bullet can be seated.
Also this rifle has a long throat, at .550".
My magazine length will hold a cartridge 3.200" long.

I would like your recommendation of the mold you think will work best.

thank you.

It's hard to go wrong with the RCBS 350gr. design. I don't know why anyone would think the Taylor wasn't good for cast bullets, it ought to be just about ideal. If you've got a good barrel you should be able to run it pretty close to full throttle. Just size the bullets to fit the throat, and have at it. BTW, those bullets cast out of 20:1, drilled with a big hollow point, and shot at 1700 fps or so really do a number on groundhogs!
