Got the 44 Mag!
« on: February 24, 2008, 02:44:12 PM »
Went to the gun show in Asheville, NC yesterday.   Ran up on a 44 mag, HV serial #, new in box.  I paid too much, probably,($260) but I wanted it, so it followed me home.  It is the SB 1 wood stocked version.  The sights stink big time, but it will be scoped before it ever sees a bullet.  I can shoot peep sights about halfway decently, but open sights are a lost cause with my astigmatism.  I will be working with 300 gr cast bullets, so I'll start from there.  Got a set of monte carlo stocks coming, so I'll be ready in a few days.  I will never catch Quick, but I am up to 17 rifles and 3 shotguns.  Honest, I can quit any time-Honest.  Just as soon as I get the 45 Colt, that is.  And maybe an 8MM Mauser stub job.  Sound familiar?

HV?? That's an overbore 2005 model, no SB1s then that anyone has ever reported and the current model SB1 comes with syn stock  with no sights according to H&R.  ???

The good 44mag barrels are those made by Marlin in 2007 or later, that would be an HX, HY or NX, NY serial number prefix, so far they've all been HX and HY, like NEF is no longer being marked on them as before.

Never trust your memory when you pass 50.  It's a HX serial #, 2007 manufacture.
