New Barrel
« on: February 21, 2008, 05:26:45 PM »
Ok, I know all of this has been answered before,  I just want to make sure I have it all correct.  I have a synthetic handi 30-30 and am thinking of getting a 45-70 barrel for it, along with a new foreend and a scope rail and hammer extension.  Steps would be to contact H&R to make sure they have the 45-70.  Remove the barrel and forend from the handi and fill out the accessory barrel form,  package up the receiver and butt stock also place the form in the box. Will they put the rail on for me? I want to leave the sights in place, is that a problem?  I plan an using USPS,  do I have to declare to the clerk what it is or just walk up and mail it to H&R.

  Thanks Again

Yeap. Some don't even include the stock, only the receiver,  when they ship out for a new barrel due to a couple instances where the stock was damaged. The rail may come mounted, but is super easy to mount if not, just get the right allen wrench. Sense you are mailing straight to the manufacture it's all good. I usually insure the package at least.

You've got everything right.  You don't have to declare anything, just insure it.  I got a Huntsman stainless barrel last fall and got a nice deer with it.  I love my .45-70 and have the receiver and fore end packed and ready to go Monday.  Its going in for a .30/06 stainless, a .22-250 blue and a .357 mag.
Keep both eyes open and make the first shot good.
