2007 Remington Model 7 XCR
« on: February 21, 2008, 02:42:04 PM »
This stainless steel version was only available for 1 year. At the local gun shop, they have one chambered in .308.
The stock is a ugly camo, but should be functional. The barrel is 20" and fluted. The contour appears to be varmint weight, my guess similiar to a LV, although heavier than a standard Model 7 barrel. This rifle also has the "new" adjustable trigger.
Does anybody on this board have this rifle and could comment on how it shoots.
My intent is using it for informal target, maybe coyote and whitetail deer.
My hesitation is the price, it seems steep for this type of rifle and it was around only for one year. Is there a engineering problem with it?
My alternative is a TC Encore.

Thanks

For some reason Remington seems to be on the same kick S&W was a few years back but with their Model 7. Each year now it seems they come out with a new version and keep it only one or two years then come out with another. This year it's the Predator to replace the one you're asking about.

I don't have one but did like the looks and feel of them. I came real close to buying one but they just didn't have the chambering I wanted available and I just wasn't interested in what was available. They weren't cheap. The newer Predator version is cheaper and has a nice looking camo stock but then I liked the stock on the other as well.

Still the one this year that's caught my eye is the 25th Anniversary rifle. I've got one on hold for me at the gun shop and will pick it up this week end most likely. I got one of the originals way back when they first came out and now I'll get the Anniversary gun to join it. The original is now my wife's rifle with the stock cut to fit her.

I have one in 7mm-08 and love it.  Like graybeard says "there were not cheap".  I bought this one from my dad.  He purchased it and had a stroke and decided to sell it.  He think he paid about $875 for it.  The first group I shot was about 1/2 inch.  I did not need it but it complements my other model 7.  It is a great little gun.  I would say but it!  Who knows a hundred years from now it might be worth more than you paid. :)
