Steel tubed weavers

Years ago I shot a lot of wild hogs on the ranch where I'm now retired on with a Sako vixen in 222 rem. and a steel tubed 6x weaver. Worked pretty good. Of course by today's standards it was inferior but Jack recommended them so I had one.  ;) even shot them in the headlights of my truck.

A few years later in the southern Rockies my son dropped that rifle off Black mountain. I replaced it with a identical Sako and another weaver 6x this time in 222 rem.  >:( why fix something that's working. I was a little more flush so I took that rifle to a El Paso gunsmith & had him slim up that wide forend and put a nice snobel forend and rechecked it along with a thin rubber bad. Bog was that a nice outfit for varmints. With the heavier barrel it seemed to hang so nice for off hand shooting.

Anyway I was thinking maybe a weaver 6x is all I really ever needed.  :o

your title caught my attention... I am a big fan of Bill Weaver's product line from the 40's on.. The steel tubed weavers are built like tanks and hard to beat for the $$.

I have many in my collection and still buy/trade for them often. I usually try to match them up, by age, to a corresponding firearm.

I've got a 1.5X and a 3X myself in steel. Never gave any problems.

Like the old steel Weavers as well.   Still have 2-3 of them around here - a 3-9 is currently on my Ruger 77/22/17HM2.
 
My current Sako L461 Vixen 222Remy is a Sako custom shop job.   Most of my firearms get more scope as they all get used for long to extreme range far more often than not.

I have about 8 older steel tube Weavers......never have had a problem with any of them.
