AK47 won't eject
« on: March 15, 2008, 10:23:52 AM »
Just picked up an AK, this one is the .223 version, it will eject an unfired round, but won't eject a fired case. I'm guessing an extractor issue, but I knew you guys would have more knowledge. Thanks in advance, Jim

What does the rifle do? Does it leave the fired casing in the chamber? Does it remove the fired case from the chamber but allow it to stay in the action? Does a fresh round strip from the magazine? Is this a 223 caliber rifle or the AK-74 variant in caliber 5.45.? Check the chamber for rust and crud. If ammo with lacquered steel cases is used the firing process will cause a lot of the lacquer to be transferred to the chamber walls.. This will create real problems with the ejection cycle. A good cleaning will usually remedy the problem,,,unless it's been there too long and rust has pitted the chamber walls. The AK design is not a beautiful weapon but it usually works..but then maybe that makes it a beautiful design!!

Guess I should have been more descriptive, the case sticks in the chamber and it does pick up a fresh round from the magazine. It is chambered for 5.56X47. I'll try cleaning up the chamber, thanks for the advice!

Wolf ammo?

If so, check under the extractor and see if it's gunked up with laquer, and also check the chamber for same.
