Take off barrel price?
« on: February 18, 2008, 01:37:24 PM »
I am thinking of purchasing a new Savage 111 in 300 win mag to build a 257 Weatherby on.  I am just wondering what a ballpark price might be that I could get for never fired 300 win mag barrel.  I don't have the gun yet just trying to figure out how to recoup a bit of cost.  Thanks.

I can't help with your question.  However, you may want to check over at www.SavageShooters.com.  They have a forum just for selling Savage parts.   Also check the rifle forum.  You can usually find discussions from those who have done or are considering barrel swaps.

If I may make a suggestion.  Unless your heart is set on a Savage, you might want to look at a Weatherby Vanguard.  Obviously, they are chambered in .257 Wby., but the Vanguard is not that much more expensive than a new 111.  By the time you go through the process of a barrel exchange you may exceed the Weatherby price.  Or course, if you have the tools to do the barrel exchange yourself, you save the gunsmith fee.

Good luck with your project.

 :)

The gunsmithing is not going to cost me anything and I am looking for a barrel contour and length I cannot get in a vanguard.  Thanks for the link.

One sold on Savageshooters yesterday for $65

It started at I think $75-80 or so, then the guy lowered his price

Most factory blued sporter barrels go for between $25 to $75.  Common calibers like the 30-06 are cheap.  Some are pricier, like the WSM's or even the 7mm-08  Stainless are a few bucks more

Savage308,

I don't believe Northlander has a website. He is a sponsor on the Savage Shooter's forum and works his great deals through his forum there. Best way to contact him is to go to the Savage Shooter's forum. He is the real deal and is totally safe to work with - many, many, very happy customers. He also has some great prices on McGowen and Shilen barrels too.

Didn't realise the phone no and e mail weren't attached to the barrel page. The above statement is true on Northlanders dealings. Altho I have not purchased from him , the posts on Savage shooters attest to the fact that he is a straight shooter.
Another barrel you may be interested in is E R Shaw . Just type in E R Shaw rifle barrels and it will take U to the site. They have a good rep. for their work also.
