204 Handi Loads
« on: March 03, 2008, 01:48:45 PM »
If this belongs in the reloading forum I am sorry and will not be upset if it is moved.  Was thinking I would get a better response in here for my specific gun since you guys are all shooting similar guns.  I have a 204 Handie with the 24" barrel on it.  I have tried BLC2 and 4895 loads and did the best with 4895.  Had .75 I think at 100 yards also shot 32 and 40 grain Vmax and 39 grain BK.  I just bought some RL10X since on another forum alot of guys liked that powder the most, but most of them are not shooting handi's.  Is there any consolidated data on what handi's like to shoot or do any of you guys have any data to share?  I also just picked up some 40 grain Berger's too.  I hope to do better this time with working up a load.  Last time I worked on it I was new and have done lots of reading and realized I could have been making alot of mistakes.  Hop to do much better this spring with finding a sweet load.

I have good luck with Varget behind either 32 or 39 gr Sierras. Not the fastest, but some nice 1/2" groups. Haven't figured out which weight is better yet. Results seem to vary from week to week.

I have started stockpiling my gear to start loading for my Handi .204, but haven't worked up anything yet.  I figure that with all of the costs associated with reloading going up, I might need to just 'buy it cheap and stack it deep' first.   :D

One site that has a bit of info on the .204 reloading (if you haven't found it yet) is:  http://www.rugerhunting.com/forum/viewforum.php?f=4
