CZ 550 FS to Gunsmith

I am thinking about having a gunsmith go thru my CZ to smooth it up and dial in the trigger.  Gun shoots great as far as accuracy but is a little ruff.  Has anyone done this and did it make a difference?   Thanks   buckfever

Before taking it to a gunsmith I would get some flitz or other rubbing compound and put it on the surfaces that seem to be binding and work the bolt, and the trigger to smooth out the ruff spots.
In college I would do this with friends eastern european copies of the hi power or the walther pp and they would come out perfect and would take the rough edges out of the trigger and the slide would smooth right out.
I would put flitz on the rough surfaces get a towel and put it in my lap and cycle the action while watching TV.  When the flitz turned from bule to black and you could feel it start to drag, I would clean the gun and start over.

The single set trigger you've got is fully adjustable, and the owner's manual is pretty clear on how to set it up.  With a little care and testing to see that it all works the way you like by dry-firing and bouncing the butt off the floor a little, it's pretty hard to beat.

My CZs are getting progressively smoother the more I shoot them.  I haven't used an abrasive or lapping compound, just shoot, cycle, shoot, cycle, repeat.  I did polish the inside of the magazine lips on the 527 however.  That was pretty craggy to start and still isn't perfect.

Welcome.
Flitz is great stuff.  Just keep it away from anything color cased hardened.  Unless you want it shinny and no color.  Don't ask How I know it works really well.  I'll just show you an ols Ithaca Side by Side that has a reall clean and brite reciever.

Flitz is a rubbing compound that is bought in a tube.  I believe I purchased it from Midway.  It is also very good for polishing things like knives.  Really cleaned up and shined up the bolt on my CZ 550 FS.  Good stuff.  It is the consistancy of toothpaste.  It is easy to work on and cleans up easier than other rubbing compounds.     Buckfever

They also carry it at CHEAPO Depot (Home Depot), Lowes, boat stores like E&B, Boat U/S, or West Marine.  And a few gun store also carry it in the cleaning area.  The package is grey with silver and blue lettering.

Got the 9.3x62 back from the gunsmith and the trigger is just excellant.  Best $45.00 I have spent in a while.  He also worked on the set trigger, what a difference, both of them break like glass no creep at all.

FLITZ  is a metal polish, IIRC, and I've also seen it on the shelves in auto supply stores & motorcycle shops.
