.204 handi
« on: March 02, 2008, 12:59:30 PM »
I saw a .204 handi in a pawn shop over the weekend.  It has laminate stocks and appears to be in great condition.  The question I have is that when you close the action, it seems like the latch is not putting any pressure on the breach face.  When it is closed, it seems like it has locked up tight. It is the time before it closes that seems loose.  I hope ya'll can understand what I am speaking of.  The shop wants $149 dollars for the gun.  Thanks guys.

Buy it if the serial number on the left side of the underlug matches the last 3 numbers on the frame, that's a great price, if there's something wrong with it, H&R will fix it, they make repairs for defects for a lot longer than the warranty period, they've replaced barrels on 2nd hand rifles that were 8-10yrs old with no charge, their CS is outstanding. If it's an extractor barrel, there's no resistance to closing like an ejector barrel since there's no spring to compress, so they close easier. The 204 was the first chambering to have an extractor from the get go, mine was a 2004 model with laminated pallet wood stock. ;)

Thanks for the quick reply.  It appears to have a heavy 22 inch barrel.  I wish I had a need for it, I already have a .223, I just hate to see a good gun with a good price on it and not buy it!    Jeff in Texas

The bull barrel is standard for the 204, the only other choice is the fluted Ultra which is a bull barrel also, but 24" instead of 22". I have both the 204 and a 223, the 204 is a lot closer to the 22-250 in performance than the 223, so it's a good one to have. The forte of the 204 is being able to see impacts on varmints, the recoil is so slight you don't loose the sight picture with recoil, shooting paper, it's just like a 17hmr, the holes just appear, it's also flatter shooting at longer range than the 223 and 22-250 with comparable bullet weights. ;D

Not a bad deal at all considering you could resell the barrel for 100 bucks and the stocks for 50- 80 buck.
