Price check: Ruger single six 22cal/22mag cyl
« on: April 04, 2008, 06:29:46 AM »
I may be going to an auction next week and in the catalogue this Ruger single six, in 22 cal with a 22 mag cylinder caught my eye. Looks good like it was well taken care of, blued with plain wooden grips. How can I determine the value for bidding purposes? I have the serial no. and according to the Ruger webpage it is a 1970 firearm, standard model single six.  What should I look for when I inspect it for problems?

Thanks.

The Blue Book of Gun Values is a good place to start.  Do you know what the finish is?(99% 95% 90% 80%)  Value goes down fast after the 95% rating.......
Does the firearm have any "History" with it?  Was it owned by someone famous(that was actually worthy of being famous-not Britney Spears)?

I recently purchased a used firearm at work for re-sale and only gave the fella 30% of the re-sale value(standard offer).  Sold the firearm two hours later.  So if your buying to sell it for a profit, only bid as high in order to make something on the deal...if your buying it as a shooter, bid what you comfortable-and no further.

Dont know exactly what shape its in, until I see it at the auction next week. I doubt it will have any history with it, nothing I have seen in the past at these auctions have any information. I will keep it for myself if I do get it, but if the bidding goes out of sight I will pass.
