Recipe question about Laser cast
« on: March 07, 2008, 04:24:44 PM »
I may have purchased prematurely. Getting ready to load 45 lc ,250 gr, rnfp , .452 dia Laser Cast, looking for 1000-1050 fps from a Ruger BH 5.5" also to use the same reloads in my Win. 94.

The Laser Cast are not GC, does anyone have a recipe for this?
Is this too fast with out a GC?
Would it end up being too fast wo/GC for the 94?

I do not want leading problems. Also do not want full house Ruger Only loads, but faster than Colt loads.
The manuals I purchased thus far do not have loads for Laser Cast.

Thanks

Look at 9 grains of Unique.   Will duplicate original loads but shy of your stated goal. What's another 50 f/s?  As far as lacking a gas check, at the speeds you're talking about, if leading occurs it's not the result of not having one but another symptom; improper sized bullet for your barrel or cylinder mouths, a rough barrel, or if undersized, not enough umph to obturate the base of the bullet to properly seal the bullet in the barrel.

Would 20 gr. of H4227 with a Laser Cast 250 gr. be a decent load for both the ruger or 94?
One of my manuals shows this load for a 250 gr. Hornady XTP @1150 fps.

Any suggestions?

Thanks

Gene, you never know until you try.  I got lucky, I have a plinking load that shoots well in my Black Hawk and Trapper and also have a hunting load that does the same.  I have many other combinations that work in one but not in the other.  No one can tell you but your particular pistol and rifle.
