Range Report for new KP95PR/10
« on: March 02, 2008, 06:40:58 AM »
Picked up my P95 yesterday and took it to the range after a good cleaning and lubricating.  I use RIG SS grease on the slide/frame rails and barrel linkage, and a few drops of Breakfree on all the other moving bits.  For sight in I used Winchester/USA white box 115gr FMJ.  The first x10 rounds showed it was shooting to the right so I unscrewed the set screw on the rear sight and drifted the sight to the left a good bit.  It took a few good wacks with my Lyman brass hammer and drift to get the sight to move, so the set srew is not vital, but a nice feature.  The next x10 round punched out the ten ring at 7 yards.  I put the remaining x80 rounds of 115gr FMJ through the gun to get its feel and test my three x10 round magazines.  Everything worked great with no jamming.  Next I put x50 rounds of Remington 115gr JHP through, this ammo was a bit hooter, but shot to the same point of aim as the Win FMJ. Since I'm used to shooting Blackhawks, single action, the P95 trigger took a little getting used to.  The double action pull is long and spongy, while the single action pull has a  lot of take up in the trigger before it fires.  All in all I'm very pleased with this gun that retailed for $320 and $390 out the door with tax and registration.

Glad the thing worked out for you.  Don't you just love the triggers on semi-auto pistols?  I think the only semi-auto that has a decent trigger is a higher quality 1911 but I guarantee you aren't getting out the door for no $400, at least one worth owning.  That is one reason I don't really enjoy shooting them as much as I do revolvers, that and picking with the chickens looking for my brass that has flown out 10 or 12 feet into the grass, dirt, or snow.  I reload and I just can't stand to leave any brass laying, mine or somebody else's.  I own two semi-auto pistols.  One is a S&W 4506-1 45ACP and the other is a Hungarian made FEG P63 9X18 Makarov and the triggers on both of them has enough take up that if it were a revolver I'd start replacing parts in it.  Probably won't own any more semis, but have learned never say never.

I know what you mean on the trigger pulls with the semi-autos.  The best that I have owned are the Model 1911, Tokarev, and the CZ-75.  My Springfield XD trigger is spongy, and my Beretta 92 has a poor trigger too.

I spite of what the _________ (fill in the blank) controlled media would have us believe the US Army is no dummies.  Their order for x5000 P95's is what got me interested in this particular gun.  That and the generally good reviews in this forum.  With Ruger reworking their product line and the upcoming election the time was now.  Davidson's had these for $390 out the door once I picked it up.  I've put x250 rounds through it to date without a single failure, not bad.  Tonight I tinkered with the rear sight a bit more to fine tune the point of impact and was keeping everything in the ten ring on a standard silhouette at the full length of the range at fifteen yards.  That includes the first double action shot with the remaining x9 being single action.

I've had my P95 for 5 years, accurate and super reliable, great pistol. Since, I've added a P90, P345 and a SR9.
