H&R Officers Model Springfield
« on: February 05, 2008, 09:45:53 AM »
Does anyone know the manufacture of the tang sight H&R used on their Officers Model Trapdoors?  I would like to locate a smaller eye cup.

Thanks
Jim

I found an Officer's Model today but I don't think it's all original. The Tang sight is missing and there is a steel plate in it's place, and there is a barrel mounted notch with elevator that doesn't look right.  I may replace it with a Smith Enterprises buckhorn ladder sight.  What a pretty gun!

Scout34,

Yes, they are pretty guns and they shoot the same way.  Sounds like someone removed the tang sight but you can always install another.  You might need to modify the recess in the tang area since the bases may be different on the sight you choose.

Mine is set up with the buckhorn (Buffington) ladder sight H&R used on some of the Carbines.  The problem with that is....it gets in the way when using the tang sight.  So, I remove it when I want to do some precise target shooting.  For general hunting, the buckhorn sight is more practical.

You might peruse these sites  for possible suggestions.
