.475 stabilizing...
« on: March 04, 2008, 11:48:21 AM »
So, thanks for your input so far.  I am wanting to develop one load for my new .475L about 1050-1100 fps with a 400 gr. + bullet.  Is the LFN or WFN the best choice?  Twist rate of the barrel is 1:22".

Thanks - redleg

I've shot one 475 revolver, but only a little.  The customer who brought it over had my 400 gr LFN loaded to 1000 fps and it was a delight to shoot, and double delight to here the bullets inpact.    That load so impressed me that I wouldn't change a thing, yet I have many customers who prefer the WFN.  Take your pick for this bullet weight and velocity level.  The WFN will smack a deer down considerable faster than the LFN which such a load, but both will be quick.  I would recommend plainbase bullets for such loads, and use one of the LBT lubes.  You will have perfect accuracy with no leading, and not have to shake your wallet out to buy gas checks every week or so.  I expect you'll shoot it a lot.  Your hand looks stout and young enough that you won't feel the gentle recoil.  It is stout compared to smaller guns but with the slow bullets it's a hard gentle push that doesn't cause pain like fast bullet loads do.  (You already know this but I wrote it for other readers who have never shot a 475.  They can be very nice to shoot, or nasty, depending on the load.  But they are a great game gun without using the monstrous power potential.)
