Honda ATV's Recon vs. Rancher

Does anyone have any experience with Honda 4-wheelers. In a week or so I plan to purchase my first ATV. I'm getting either a Honda Recon Fourtrax (299cc) or a Honda Fourtrax Rancher (420cc). The Rancher is about $750.00 more.

In all honesty I'll mostly use the thing for hauling deer out of the woods. Not big on trail rides, maybe once or twice a year. But, $750.00 is not THAT much difference. I need advice on this one guys...what would you do. Oh I should also mention that I'm 6'1 tall and weigh about 230 lbs. Is the recon all the bike that I need or should I splurge and get the rancer? Which would you get? Thanks

Owned them both, and I would have to say that while they are both great machines, the Rancher is the greatest all around machine.  Get the 4WD Rancher, and never look back!!! 

Also, the Recon is a noticeably smaller machine.  I'm only 5'11", and 155 lbs., but felt too large on the Recon.  Plus, you will never regret spending the extra dough to have 4WD. 

In my extensive experience, and the experience of twenty some riding compatriots, Honda's don't break!  We are all on Ranchers!  Believe me, we have tried! ;D ;D ;D

I agree, either will bring a deer out of the woods, but at 6ft 5inches, I just  look funny on a Recon...I own a Rancher, my brother owns a Recon, he is about your size and gets along fine...I'm more comfortable on the Rancher...

I have a 2001 Honda Rancher 4x4 350 and I have never had a problem.  6000 miles and still going strong.

I don"t have a Rencon or Rancher I have a 2002 Foreman 450 ES  650 miles great machine Honda is the best.

i have a 500 foreman 4x4.  went in to buy the rancher, but the salesman talked me out of it,and i am glad he did.  i should have listened to the salesman when i bought my fourtrax 300 9 years ago.  he tried to get me to buy one with 4x4, but i wouldn't have it, now i wish i would have.  good luck with your purchase.
