Help; Barrel won't lock up?
« on: March 03, 2008, 09:19:43 AM »
Bought a 10" stainless 22 match barrel from a guy here and it wont lock up on my G-2 frame. The split locking lug looks the same as my other barrels but the hammer won't cock. At first it wouldn't even stay closed but with a quick snap close, it will lock closed but you can see a TINY space between the end of the barrel and the frame. What's up? Please dont say  I need to send it all off to Thompson Center. Thanks.

One call to our site host, Ed's Contenders, and he got me all straightened out. Thanks Ed.

A little honing on the locking lug usually cures the problem. Give Ed a call and he will walk you thru it.

I had this issue with an Encore and switched frames and the problem went away. Match grade chambers have this issue more often than standard chambers.

If your brass is resized  to properly fit your chamber this should never be an issue. I have several custom chambers and have never had a lock up problem due to that. The only lock up problem I have experienced were due to the locking lugs which is pretty common but easy to eliminate.

I think this is because match grade barrels have tighter overall specs, in general. Not a problem. Like posted, a simple adjustment will correct the issue. I just changed frames and the problem went away. No biggy.

I sure was glad to see this posted here.  I have exactly the same problem with a 44 mag super 16 barrel that I just bought for my G2.  Where does the lug need to be relieved in order to allow it to lock up fully?
