Why this need for all of the special models of the basic actions? It reminds me of all of the golf clubs that are supposed to make you shoot like the pro's. Most of the hype is to get us to let go of the $'s on the latest toys that the manufacturers unceasingly tell us we need to do what we did before without the new stuff came out. The thing that they do most effectively do is to separate us from our $. Whatever happened to just having an ADL and BDL? It seems even worse in muzzleloading.

We ought to start up a group called "Gun Nuts Anonymous". I know the feeling, I can't wait to get to the gun shop to see what came in since I was there last (yesterday)! There are many variations of this illness. Maybe if we get enough members we can qualify for some kind of Federal funding (why not, everybody else has some kind of a problem that the Fed's are paying for)! And then we can use it to help satisfy our cravings.

I'm going to do a wise thing and get on the ball as far as reloading. I'm not shooting factory ammo when I get the Sendero SF II in .300RUM, $55.00 a box is ludicrous. A lot of $$ can be saved and spent on more firearms

I often wondered what my Grandparents and Great Grandparents would say about me owning so many guns. Back then, when money was an absolute necessity for basic survival, if they owned guns, it was "One Gun" and used as a Tool and not a Toy. Not a topic of conversation, but something that was depended on for survival in the toughest of times. I can remember scrimping for Pennies, and my predicessors were always watching their money.

I am sure they would think I fell of my rocker if they could only peek in my gun cabinet.

Sometimes I think life is too good. I also wonder what other good I could have done with some of that money I blew on guns over the years.

After all that........

Well said, err typed. I admit I could be doing more productive things with all the $$ I spend on firearms. Having said that, does knowing that and *still* buying them make it worse? Maybe so, but I also remind myself I could be spending the $$ on a lot worse so it goes both ways, well that's how I justify it so I sleep better at night. And Yes, you still need a VTR, or the proper term after making such a post would be "want" a VTR.

If I could have only 1 or 2, 1 would be a bolt action .308, the other a 870 12 guage. With those I wouldn't have to sacrifice anything. My safe would be empty though and right now I'm having 2 much fun filling it

I would choose a system gun like the Encore. I could get the ML barrel for ML season, Rifle barrel for rifle season and then I would need a pump shotgun to have for self defense and turkey hunting. I have managed to stay away from credit cards and have saved up and I only get what I can afford. So I guess I really don't see a problem with it. $:-\$

Way to go with the credit cards, why pay the bank's rip-off rates? This way, you have more of your money to spend on something you like, unless you like paying interest! So you may have to wait a little bit before you buy, my dealer will hold it for me until I can pay it off.

Thanks. The downside to no credit cards is bad credit. I have very bad credit with the new credit system. A person with more credit cards has good credit. Last year I went up to Alltel to renew my contract and they wanted me to pay $500 per phone because of my credit and I had 4 one for each member of my family. I sold almost all of my guns around 1995 when I moved to help with the down payment on my house. Now I am trying to get my collection back. Dale good luck with your truck. Its not very easy I know from when I got laid off from work 2 years ago when I was in a situation when they came and got mine. Just keep your head up and you will get though it.

Now we are way off topic. The gun shop here is suppose to have a .308 coming in two weeks. I might just trade something and put it on layaway until I can pay it out.

Credit is another thing my Grandparents wouldn't understand. If they couldn't buy most things outright, they did without. I try to live without it. Especially those Credit Cards. Credit Cards are the ruin of alot of modern lives. If I didn't need a credit rating to buy a house, I wouldn't have any at all. A life without all of those credit bills is mostly a dream for most Americans today. Most of those 'Gotta Have' items are NOT necessities.

I think if you have credit woes, the last thing you need is another gun. It might be time to sit back and get a life that isn't tugging on you from all sides. It isn't easy to do, and it takes time. But after you are there, there is no better feeling than knowing that you are Debt Free. The use or mis-use of credit can be a trap that gets you to the bottom and keeps you there. I am down to 1 credit card and it has no balance.

Realism is beginning to stare me down. I am realizing that having a Cabinet for of 'Dust Collectors' is idiotic. I suppose I am at the point, when I open my cabinet, I wonder "WHAT WERE YOU THINKING ! ! " IF it is a 'stage of life', then be aware that one day you may get there too one day.

Over the next few years, as I sell off my collection, I will be putting that money to what I consider to be 'better' use. I have a Savage Model 340E .22 Hornet sitting on the used rack now at the Gunshop. The sell-off has begun. This is probably the hardest one I had to hang a tag on. Next will be my M-70 Featherweight .308. After that, it will all be down hill.

I fully understand that the manufacturers need people to buy new guns so they can survive. It's just that I won't be one of the buyers soon.

Sorry to be off the subject, but I've got to say this:

Get control of your finances and you can buy the new Remington's or whatever without going into debt. I listen to Dave Ramsey, a radio/TV money guru as much as I can. I've never read his books or taken his classes, and have nothing to gain by endorsing him, but totally agree with his philosophy.

One tidbit from his web page:

"Myth: Debt is a tool and should be used to help create prosperity.
Truth: Debt is not a tool; it is a method to make banks wealthy, not you.

Debt is dumb. Most normal people are just plain broke because they are in debt up to their eyeballs with no hope of help. If you're in debt then you're a slave, in the sense that you do not have the freedom to use your money to help change your family tree. According to a recent USA Today article about debt, 78 percent of baby boomers have mortgage debt, 59 percent have credit card debt, 56 percent have car payments.

It takes a lot of will, discipline, courage and help to slay the debt monster. But it can be done. Imagine how much you could put toward retirement if you just didn't have a stinking car payment? This is how the wealthy build their wealth. Debt is really dumb. Welcome to the real world! "

I have credit woes because I don't have credit cards. I have to pay what I call the basic living bills each month then that's it. I normally try to put back at least $500 a month for savings and live off the rest and sometimes it gets tight when stuff I haven't expected come up like last week when I was admitted into the Hospital but you can make it. Jvs I have already reached that point in my life where I stopped hunting all together and sold all of my guns except 2. I used to have an FFL and I don't even have it any more but I guess when my son wanted to get into hunting and shooting the itch so to speak came back and I started back buying guns and from when he was about 5 to now 10 years later I have bought about 75 guns and sold about 25. Sometimes I think about it but I realize its not wasted money. IMO

Even though it might not look like it to you 30-06man, you are doing things right. Pay yourself first, and don't get in over your head with bills you can't afford, just because it may seem you have to keep up with the Jones'. I had to changhe careers already. It isn't an easy process. But when all is said and done, it was the right decision.

If you have enough rifles and shotguns to cover your hunting needs, don't worry about the latest gadget that the makers come out with. There are way more important things to worry about than buying another rifle, and nobody really has to tinker around at the range or the gunsmith trying to tighten the group up.

Your woes aren't exactly the same problem faced by others in this country today. The mis-use of credit for items that aren't absolutely necessary is what brings you down alot harder. Putting $500 a month to the side is a great beginning and will put you in shape for the future, if you can keep doing it. Savers always have a bright spot sooner or later. Keep plugging.

Credit and especially Credit Cards should be used wisely, not as the easy answer to what catches your eye at any given moment. I am at the age that I had to be taught how to use credit. There wasn't much of it when I was growning up. Today it is amost a given that you should go into as much debt as you can afford to pay for monthly. This is not so. IMO. There is no cheap answer to the mis-use of credit. Most people learn that the hard way.

Lost my job I worked at 23 years when it moved over seas. I went back to the school and the government paid for it. I changed careers then. I went from making $20 a hour, full benefits, and all of the over time I could get to $250 a week and having to pay for the family's insurance and pay everything. I was 2 months behind on everything. Even now I am making only $12.50 an hour until I get a raise for the some other class I have to take. I have one credit card with a $300 spending limit that I keep for emergency's.

I went into Gander and they had a Big Green model that I couldn't resist. Ya know that feeling when you see one and you just have to have it? I put 100.00 down for Layaway, I'll have the other 370.00 in 2 weeks so expect pics!

It's an '08 870 SuperMag Shur Shot w/24" barrel Gander exclusive, meaning instead of having a black finish, it's OD Green and what a difference the green makesl. They had the regular model & the Gander model next to one another and it was a no brainer

It pulls up to the shoulder so nice and points like no other shotgun I've owned, it bests my Wingmaster, yes I said it. There are no pics of it on the net with the OD Green finish so a pic of the regular model will have to do. I'll post pics of the actual beast when it comes home with me

I just saw a 308 vrt at the sportsman's warehouse for $670 bucks it was really a nice rifle would have bought it on the spot if I wasn't left handed.
