Taurus 44 magnum

I've got a .44mag ultralite - and it is a handful! 

I'm not looking for something to conceal. I'm looking for a trail gun. How much should I expect to pay for the Ultralite? I'm not squeemish about recoil, but I'm assuming the Ultralite is something not mean't to be shot a lot. Also, is the Ultralite frame & cylinder Ti? If so, then it should be corrosion resistant - something I care about here in the PWW.

Yes, it is corrosion resistant.  I have had it soaking wet for days in the holster, and it came out just fine with a little clean and lube.  I believe when I bought the ultralite it ran me about $550 or so....  I bought it for extended mountain trips, with multiple 10mile+ days. 

For a trailgun, the redhawk or the smith 629 with a 4" barrel seems like a good deal also, or look for an old SW model 29 with a shorter barrel, those are good trail guns.

If you are planning on putting some rock and roll loads through the gun, get either the ruger or the taurus, they can handle the hot loads.  Both the taurus RB and the 444ultralite are rated for the .44mag+p ammo.

Hard for me to get excited about 50oz revolvers for trail guns. I know they shoot nice, but they are heavy enough that you won't have them with you when you need them. My one and only 8 3/8" N-frame S&W would pull my pants down. I'm not going that route again. I've never shot anything based on the Raging Bull frame - do you need a step ladder to reach the trigger?

I'm also not going to load to stop armor-plated grizzlies. A 240gr JSP @1200fps is enough.

Yeah, that load is a good everyday bear stopper.  I used to use some 300grn JSP's for my .454.  I shoot almost all cast now. 

The raging bull does have a large grip, I have big hands so the grip fits me well, but my fingers aren't very long, so I couldn't have the trigger much farther away in double action.  The ultralite throws you off, because the frame is the same size, but it is only 28 oz's, which seems even less in comparison to the size.  But it's great for hiking and mountaineering.
