i took my new BC out for a hunt. here is the report and i managed to get a pic. i took a feral hog today with one shot from one of my handloads.
the load was a hornady jhp 300gr. pushed by 46 grs. of varget. one shot in the shoulder, at about 60 yards, the 450 lbs. hog wobbled and staggered, going about 10 feet, leaving a wide, heavy blood trial, and dropped over dead. the shock of the bullet hitting him spun him sideways and he staggered as he went, but he was walking dead. the hornady jhp mushroomed out real nice, but i didnt think to snap a pic of it, but it went nearly all the way thru, just an inch or so from a pass thru, busted the shoulder and scrambled the lungs.
i was really impressed with its performance. it was one heck of a good day, the sun was out, i got to prove my new BC, took a big feral hog, using my handloads, made a good shot into the vitals, one shot one kill ... it just dont get better then this.
one other note, at 60 yards i could squeeze off the round and look over the scope and see the bullet impact the hog, and see the shock way ripple thru its body. it was impressive to say the least. im totally sold on the 45-70 as a hunting round.
