I have changed my name for chat.
« on: March 10, 2008, 02:21:34 PM »
Hey guys. This is DALESCARPENTRY. I have changed my name for chat. If you are banned from the chat room you should change your name so you can get in. It works and you would not have to change your name much. I just added Plus to the end of mine. If you have spaces in your name you could just close them up. Dale

Dale,
Did you create a new account or just change your name in your profile? I see that your post count is down to 1.

While I consider it to be unimportant, I do know of at least three other members in the past who's total posting count was retained when they would do the latter (revise profile)

He added a new account. I think that in some way the accounts of those folks who can't seem to get into chat are corrupted in some way that is preventing them from getting in. Matt has not figured it out yet and quite honestly just does not have the time right now to work on it as their are too many higher priority things he has to get done first.

Opening a new account with a similar but different name seems to be working for everyone who has tried it so far that have gotten the banned message with their current name. Eventually Matt will have time to work on it and will hopefully figure out what's going on but in the mean time a new account with similar name seems to fix it. I really doubt changing your user name on current account would however. The account seems to be the problem not the name for whatever reason. Weird but the way of life at times.

As far as my post count goes and the new account goes. I will only be using that account for the chat room and will probably not ever making any posts from the new account. Dale

I couldn't get it to work after I logged in once. So I will be using this one with the #2 at the end of my name

30-06man2. I still have problems longing in under my new name because it is to long of a name. If any of you have such a problem go to this link here. Tim proveded it in another thread. With this link I can long in 100% of the time. Dale      http://www.gboreloaded.com/forums/chat/

Dale

The good thing about having two accounts (besides the chat log-on) is that now you can argue with yourself or even dispute your own word ;D ;D ;D
Just let me know if you are able to get your alter-ego (DalesPlus) to go out and work for you while you are setting at the puter with a good cup of Jo. I might be highly interested if you can make this work. ;)

No, I changed my display name from my user name and when I log into chat it dosen't say 30-06man but rather my user name.

Most folks do not realize that user name and log in name do not have to be the same.

Do Tell!
Are we talking shortcut key's here? My log-on name and password are a givin but there is no other record of myself having any other name unless you want to count my real name as verified by my valid e-mail account provided when I first joined the GB site.
Sorry if I sound dense, it is not too uncommon.

Click to go to your profile. Then select the option: ACCOUNT RELATED SETTINGS

It will show you at the top your user name which in your case is: glanceblamm it also gives you the option to change that by clicking the link called change.

Then immediately below that in a box is your NAME: which is defined there as: This is the displayed name that people will see. In your case it is again the same as your user name and so it is with probably 99.9% or more of members but not for everyone.

Now and again I'll notice that someone uses a different name for the two. Why I have no clue but some do.

I See, Said The Blind Man! THANKS!

P.S. I think that I will leave mine alone since I did log-on to the Chat ok. Matt's choice of music there is not too bad and It was quite timely as I have been enjoying a new Bose Companion 3 PC speaker system.

Well my user name and the name you see is different because my user name was meant to be a joke but turned out to look more stupid than anything. Now if I log onto chat with this you see my user name "Incomplete Deer Hunter" if you remember the Jeff Foxworthy movie about it. So if I use this its more normal and people recognize who I am easier.
