As mentioned in Markp's post I've got a Beretta made 6.5 Carcano, probably pre-war according to Mikey. It's been crudely semi-sporterized but nothing (I don't tthink) that can't be undone. The rifle's been painted and shellaced, which I will try to remove using stripper. The front barrel band is broken and both sling swivels are missing, so if I can locate these somewhere for a reasonable price I might be in business.
I haven't the faintest idea what the gun's history is. It's been one of those old hand-me-downs in a closet or corner in our family camp since I can remember and I've no idea even which long deceased relative may have originally owned it. It's been gathering dust along with another Carcano 38, a 7.35 that belonged to my grandfather and that has been somewhat sporterized back in the early 1960's, and an old Sears single shot 12-ga and an equally old single shot 22. I don't recall anyone ever shooting it and there's no old ammo for it anywhere around the camp.
I really have no interest in further sporterizing it but wouldn't mind trying to restore it to military configuration and maybe shoot the old thing, since ammo seems to be available. I surely don't need another deer rifle! Thoughts? Opinions? Thanks. -WSJones
