hello there all cannonmaniacs   ;D

my name is Dan Pettersson , Im liviing in sweden
hope you dont look to close to my spelling   ;D  I know it aint perfect but hope you can understand me  ::)

my son are now an contract employe as an soldier to the swedish army , they are training for an mission in afghanistan as an peace keeping force .
Iwe planned to have an custom made cannon for them when they are returning , it will be an 11 1/4 inch long desktop model of an 17th century cannon in .40 caliber . on an ships carriage .
its totaly my own design , thats why I want as many comments as possible on the style , I will attach the drawing here that you could look at and give me comments , Im more interested to hear whats not so good . of course it will also have dolphines , but they aint at the drawing yet . most proportions are correct for that timeperiod bronze cannon , but many small details as reinforcement rings are to small to produce in their right shapes .

please check it out and let me know what you think

Dan, welcome to GBOCannons. We are always glad to have new members...don't think we have any one else from Sweden on here.  Don't worry about your English it's just fine, and better than some here ans that't the only language they speak...

Your drawing looks good and European--1600's.  Should make a nice gift. Some of us hear also Military Vetrens, some are not , but we all have a special place in our hearts for thos who serve their country in the  Miltary,, I send my best wishes for a safe tour for him.

I worked with Nordic Brigade UNPROFOR in Macedondia, and in particular the Swedish UNPROFOR. They were top soldiers of which you can be proud.

Dan -

WELCOME to the board!

I like your taste in cannons!  Great drawing as well.

You may wish to contact several of our sponsors.  Some of them do custom work.  All of them have earned a reputation for quality work.  (See the 'stickys' at the top of the page - the topics that are there permanently - and look for 'where to get...')

Your English is very good - I've had a small taste of Swedish - as the Volvo Heavy Truck assembly plan is 8 miles from my home.  Amazingly thorough - the standards books are in at least five languages.

Dan,     Welcome.  Mike and I really enjoy looking at a drawing which is done correctly.  You have an excellent drawing here which clearly defines the features of the product you wish to have manufactured.  This cannon will look great if produced according to your design, especially in bronze.  We see no errors which need correcting.  One helpful suggestion would be to specify a vent diameter and vent angle in Zone G-4.  The manufacturer you select would probably ask for these before giving you a bid on this project.  What a wonderful gift!!

Mike and I also send best wishes to your son and his unit and hope they have an effective and safe tour.

Regards,

Tracy and Mike

I walks in my old brown gaiters along o' my old brown mule,
With seventy gunners be'ind me, an' never a beggar forgets
It's only the pick of the Army that handles the dear little pets - 'Tss! 'Tss!

thank you guys for an very warm welcome to your superb cannon forum  ;D

I know there are a few forgotten things at this drawing , but it will be corrected before I leave it to an foundry for production .
the venthole is now drawn 3 mm in diameter with an angle of 5 degrees , of course those meassurements also be there on the finished drawing .
but there are a few more small things to add to this design before Im satisfied , between the touchole diamond and next reinforcement ring there will be an medallion . its an small model of an antique swedish heraldic shield .
in the area that looks to be an vent field each owner will get his first name in raised letters directly in the casting , aproximately 8 mm high and 0,7 mm thick .

of course it will be cast in pure bronze , 90% copper / 10% tin . complete with dolphines , buffed to an extreme shine .
as this boys risk their life I cant think of anything less then the absolute highest quality for them .
this will be an lifelasting rememberance they can show to their grandchildren later in life .

if anyone wants to use my drawing for personal use  you are welcome to do so , but I hope you send me an email when its finished with an high quality photo .                dan610324@hotmail.com

please dont use it for commercial use , then its better you send me an mail and I can design an new model for you , Im retired since a few years back because of an car accident so I got all time in the world to help you . my main interest are antique cannons , not only the real thing but Im also collecting antique cannon drawings and sketches .

thanks again all of you

Do you get a chance to fire cannons?  If so we'd love to see some pictures of flame and smoke!

If not we'd like to see pictures of other cannons/mortars anyway!

Glad to have you on board!

COOL "rough idea" - I'd like to see that as an entry for next year's calendar!

CW is referring to the calendar project we did for 2008. Photos were submitted last year and we all voted on the entries. The top 12 were used in the calendar.

It can be seen (and purchased) here.

Each of the photos is also available as a single image calendar.
