Cast loads in a 1927 Thompson?

This may be a silly question, but I don't know so I'm asking.  Does anyone shoot cast bullets in a 1927 Thompson (aka Tommy gun)?  I can't afford much money for shooting any more, so cast bullets (or plated) might make some sense for me.  Any issues doing this in a Thompson?  Any reason to load differently than I would for my 1911?  Thanks.

Don't see a real problem if it's semi auto. If it's a full auto, leading would be a problem pretty quick as heat builds up in the barrel. By the way, even cast lead bullets are far from inexpensive these days!!

For what it's worth, I have a buddy that had and may still have one in full auto (legally).  He loaded cast bullets without a problem.  His daytime job?  Chief Warrant officer in the Weapons Training Department, United States Army Ordnance Center and School.

Since they are recoil operated there's no gas system to clog up.  Will work fine.

I have done speed shooting with cast lead out of quite a few guns without any problem whatsoever.  All semi auto though....

Check with Leadheads for hardcast 230gr .452" bullets.......the website is Proshootpro.com, & like the other gent said, since you probably will not have a full-auto version, I wouldn't think they'd pose a problem, but I have to admit, altho I'd LOVE to own one, I never have. Did rent one, tho, at Buffalo Rock Shooter's Supply in Ottawa, Illinois, back in the late '70's. $7 for a 20rnd stick mag. Just like sprayin' a water hose! Great fun! jd45

I haven't loaded anything for my Thompson yet for a number of reasons, but I have some plated bullets I'll try out.  A local shop here that recently closed (owners retired) had a decent-looking 1928 (class III automatic) in the case for $15,000.  That'd be pretty cool, but I doubt I could pay for the ammo!

I had one, and sold it quickly, as I have two young boys (19 and 21 YO) who loved to shoot it.  I couldn't reload ammo fast enough even with my progressive press.  I was loading 230 grain cast bullets and didn't have any problems with malfuncioning. It,s a high $ gun to feed. I would like to get one in 22 rf.
