Colt production dates

I've been poking around the web and have found all sorts of "collectors" sites that list production dates by serial number for Colt 1911's & 1911A1's, but nothing on the Colt Commander / Combat Commander.  Anyone know of a resource for this?

Also, would anyone know when Colt started making pistols in stainless steel?  I saw a Series 70 Combat Commander today that didn't quite look like either stainless or nickel.  The dealer said it was brushed stainless, but it didn't look like any other SS piece in the showcase (Colt or other).

Mike:  I have found that the blue book of values gives alot of other info other than just the value of a particular weapon.  It will give production numbers, finishs , calibers , and mfg. dates.  I just got back from a almost 2 wk stay at the lake when I get kinda cought up I will try to get you some more info.    JIM

Mike:  The earliest model I can find made with stainless is the MKIV/series 80  9mm mfg 1991-1992 .38 super new 1990, 40 s&w new 1992 or 45 ACP disc. 1998.  The MKIV/series 70 was made in a nickle satin finish, and I wish I still had it.  The serial number part of your question depends alot on the model and where it was manufactured Argentine/Mexico/ springfield/ or remington etc.  If you can find a used blue book and alot of gun shops sell their old ones they are a wealth of info in them pick one up, like I said earlier the info is more important than the value of a gun part.   JIM
