Turkey Shoot or Card Shoot, Need Help.
« on: March 16, 2008, 08:49:04 AM »
I live within walking distance of a local Ruritan Club who has turkey/card shoots every Thursday night. I've taken my factory stock 870 with after market screw-in chokes. I still cannot compete with those guys who have the hopped up guns.
Does anyone choke down shotguns or can point me in the right direction. I've seen Bill Truitts web page, but he is pretty expensive.
I have a couple of 870s, an old Rem Mod 11 and also a High Standard Semi. I would consider sending any of these barrels to someone who could make me a good card/turkey shoot barrel for a reasonable price.

i have for my 1100 a turkey choke that sticks out of the barrel about a inch, i think it is a extra full. have you tried that? if so, yu will have to get "in" with the locals and see what they are using.otherwise just hang in there, its kinda luck like the slots.that is unless yu want to play the game like they are.

I ordered a custom barrel from Remington for my 1100.  I was able to get the forcing cone lengthened, middle bead in the rib, and screw in chokes for under $300.  My 1100 shoots as good, or better, than a lot of the local O/U clays shooters.  On one of my favorite sporting clays ranges, I actually did better with the 1100 over my Browning 325I because of the shorter barrel and faster swing.

I don't know what kind of shooting you are doing, but you can also taylor your loads to help yourself out if reloaded ammo is permitted.  If you have to use factory ammo, you will have to run down there a couple nights a week and try different shot/choke combo until you get in the ball park.

try Ashland turkey shoot , ask for John Bengal , he is the best they say .     804 337 2960 this is on the web site for outlaw turkey shoots in VA.
if all you want is a factory bbl with a little work to use at local matches find a 30 or 32 full choke factory bbl with out screw in chokes to send him . if you find a 34 inch full choke with rifle sights grab it they are few from the factory .
If ya can see it ya can hit it !
