Another .243 question.
« on: March 15, 2008, 02:01:25 PM »
I have been reading through the old posts and it seems there has been a lot of disappointment with the handi in .243.  I have been considering one in this caliber, but now I am worried that I won't be happy with the accuracy.  I have a .308 survivor and it is a tack driver with 150 gr. feds, shooting 1/2 to 3/4 groups at 100 yards consistently.
I am very interested in a .243 with a bull barrel, and will use it for yotes, paper punching and the occasional ground hog.  200-300yards max  does anyone know if the ultra varmint or ultra varmint fluted are shooting any better?

The 243 is way overkill for any of the three uses, you should just use the 308 and save yourself some grief.  Larry
A gun is just like a parachute, if you ever really need one, nothing else will do.

I had the standard barrel syn stock version, shot just fine but liked the heavier bullets better, traded it because I just didn't use it much. The guy I traded it to hunts deer with it works just fine for him.

i disagree the 243 with its high BC's and it velocity make for a great yote and groundhog gun and those high BC's and light recoil make it just plain fun for punching paper.

with a hot load and 55 grainers the 243 is point and shoot out past 350 yards and with some 105's or 95's its great for splattering groundhogs way out there and paper too
curiosity killed the cat , but i was lead suspect for a while
