accy brl. decisions

I am thinking of a new brl from the factory brl program. Either a 45/70, 45 colt, or 44 mag. I have brass and dies for them all but I do not have a gun in 45/70 the others I do. I was wanting a handy sized rifle with some power, as a truck gun or ATV gun. I know that any one of these calibers with handloads, will work on the animals here in the interior of Alaska. Not as a primary hunting gun but as a tote along gun. Can they all handle/ stabilize heavy bullets.

P.S. I know, no one should be without at least one 45/70, I am still not sure which to choose.

Get all three ;D The 45-70 is very popular with the guys on this site. The 45-70 will handle 500 grain bullets with no problems. You start getting over 500 grains and it starts cutting down on case capacity. The 45-70 has a relatively short throat. I think it will handle even heavier bullets. Since you want it to be a truck gun, get the 22" barrel. It should handle any thing you might run into, even in Alaska. I read a magazine article where they were using a 45-70 with 500 grain hard cast bullets in Africa on Cape Buffalo and getting pass troughs. ;)

Get the 45-70 of course!!! With the facts as you gave them to us there is not even any
more discussion that can be made about that decision!!! Also you will like it....<><....:)

You'll love the .45-70.  I wouldn't be without mine, and there's no griz in Michigan.  I've got it in the 22 inch.  It is very accurate and just plain "Handi".  If I had it to do over, and I might, I think I'd remove the rear sight and put a scout/pistol scope there.  I'm doing this now with a Handi .357.  The only thing I don't care about it is that it is barrel heavy and only slings comfortably muzzle down, but that also makes for a steady hold.  Good luck with whatever you choose.  Pete
