Any body putting pinto beans in chilli is dumb. Ruining two good foods.
Jowls have to be salt cured to be good.

Ditto on the kidney beans in chili. You can get them spiced at different levels if you want them that way. Ive never had chili without beans or ever seen it like that. Some of my spanish friends use a number of different  types of beans in their chili depending on what the recipe calls for

This chili thing is a very cultural thing--same as BBQ is.
In Texas, by God anybody who relies on beans in chili is from the north.
I never had beans in chili until I was away from Texas.
Now BBQ is the same, no pork down here---well except for smoked pork ribs.
No sauce boys---good BBQ'd meat deserves a chance to be tasted.
I like red beans and rice with sausage and corn bread or black eyed peas and rice, sausage and cornbread.
Blessings
TEXAS, by GOD

Indeed it is. I'm actually from the north-east, but I've lived in Texas, as well as VA, ME, LA and FL for that matter. I'd never had "chili" w/o beans till I got to Texas, when I decided that those Texans know what Chili was all about. I actually cook both kinds, "chili" and Chili, they're both darn tasty.

I just don't consider this stuff w/ beans to be Chili. Not after tasting the real thing, and learning about the history and tradition behind it. Real Chili is a revelation if you've not had it. You won't see ground  beef in it. No tomatoes. No beans... I highly recommend finding a good recipe somewhere on-line and giving it a go. I'll just warn ya that it takes a hell of a lot longer to cook than our northern "chili".

I don't know what Spanish people put in their chili, but Mexicans do not put beans in theirs.
It is very simple
you can have beans.
you can have chili
you can have chili with beans.
should be called by its proper name.
chili with beans is not "chili"
I do understand that some people regardless of being firemen, policemen, or taxi drivers, have never had the joy of eating chili. :'(
I also understand that some people use fillers such as beans in chili, cause they want to feed more folks
kinda like putting plastic in beef cattle feed. :o 8) ::)
